Voir la version pdfFrom sugar to rhum agricole, the visitor’s guide to Habitation Clément covers two centuries of industrial heritage. It is part of the “Parcours du Patrimoine” series, a national collection that explores some of France’s most important heritage sites.
After a presentation of the history of the place from the 18th century to the present day, also covering 100 years of the Clément family, the reader can browse the various parts of the estate through its gardens, the former distillery and storehouses and finally the traditional Creole house.
The authors are two of the top experts on Habitation Clément.
Heritage architect Christophe Charlery graduated from the Ecole de Chaillot in 2001 and was appointed to the ABF (specialised corps of state architects) in 2010. Specialising in domestic architecture in the former French territories of the West Indies, he headed up the restoration and redevelopment project at Habitation Clément from 2003 to 2009.
Florent Plasse graduated in archival science and art history. In charge of the collections and heritage at Habitation Clément since 1993, he oversees the restoration and protection work of the site.
