Abel Barroso lives and works in Havana.

A member of the Cuban generation of artists from the 1990s, he studied at Cuba’s National Arts School (ISA).
His work has gained international recognition, including in China, Japan, the US and Europe. His practice
consisting of drawing and producing woodcut sculptures proposes a critique on the accumulation of global
wealth and relations between developed and Third World countries. Abel Barroso brings a modern touch to
engraving that in his sculptures and installations serves as a starting point for his three-dimensional creations.
His pieces resemble old wooden toys and models and immediately conjure up memories of childhood objects
