Practical information

While graffiti is by definition illegal and underground and is part of the urban landscape, it is also recognised now as an artistic practice in its own right associated with street art. The escape from the walls takes the form of a creative impulse that makes the walls speak, an instinctive reaction impelled by an affirmation of freedom.

Escape or avoidance? These artists conquer in turn a surface, they create their fall-back area then vanish. “Other areas” arise from this mawonaj piktural, whose backdrop, the urban canvas, pushes certain  limits. An art on the run that resorts to the urban forest, a place of creation and disappearance, resistance and dissent, in search of creative freedom.

Free from institutional norms and academic codes, graffiti proliferates  here and there. While it is away from walls this mawonaj piktural allows its creativity to flow with a certain predilection, it also seeps between the walls without half-measure. Thus, the paint spray is invited to the Fondation Clément, under the “pressure” of the NPL crew, which is at the origin of the collective group MadaPaint created in 2010.
