Practical information

John Lie A Fo, a passionate man who transmits his convictions, a musician, artist and a man proud of his roots who wants to be the spokesman of his culture, invoker of the intellect, inhabited with all these lives, he lives his own life fully, as a free artist.

With a bewitching or disturbing lyricism, with a sometimes harsh, sometimes subtle line, his paintings invite us to travel into a world at the intersection of modernity and shamanic art whose inspiration gives the work formidable power. A la verticale de l’Equateur (The vertical line of the Equator), John Lie Afo’s exhibition is composed of about twenty acrylic paintings on large size canvases; some works of spirituality, in search of elevation, in search of a harmony to recreate the earth of men and gods, with the vow that if the sky is not empty, the sacrifices dedicated to the divine are not vain.

From ochre-brown Sienna to the powerful blue of the canopy of heaven, he makes his primary colours burst out profusely like he often does; and set in black, which he alternates with other dull hues, impasto and pale, chalky, scrapped backgrounds, where blurred, distorted, ghostly and suddenly luscious shapes appear.

Ritual ceremonies, dialogues between mask, totem and shaman; brotherly duo and fratricidal duel; convocation of spirits; calls for prayers; war always recommenced; offerings and healings; fever, fervour and faith; everyday scenes; our friends the animals, an ode to beauty; time passing by; time remaining; life; love; death… the vital impulse, peace at last; many birds… and a desire to fly.
