Practical information

Alexandre Bertrand, a figurehead of painting in Martinique, would say: “I have reds, blues, black and yellows with… quite a lot of contrast. It has a violent harmony. You need some time to get used to it.”

The exhibition dedicated to him by the Clément Foundation reflects this predilection for colour, for “warm, intense, striking tones”. The paintings on display span from narrative realism to abstract experimentation. Some depict local scenes, others are the translation of metaphysical concerns. But all express his talent, his craft and his creative force.
