While graffiti is, by definition, clandestine and illicit, and traditionally found in the urban space, it is now also recognised as an artistic practice on its own merit, associated with street art. Taking flight beyond the walls takes the form of a creative impulse, making the walls speak, an instinctive reaction spurred by an affirmation of liberty.
Flight or evasion? These artists conquer surface after surface, mark their territory and then vanish. ‘Alternative spaces’ emerge from this mawonaj piktural whose background, whose urban backdrop, pushes back certain boundaries. Art on the loose that is taking over the urban forest, a place of creativity and disappearance, resistance and dissidence, in search of creative freedom.
